Welcome to NC West District

The North Carolina West District is proud to be a community of Optimist Clubs dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of young people and in the communities we call home. Our District encompasses six zones across Eastern Tennessee, a small portion of Virginia, and Eastern and Central North Carolina, with each zone led by a dedicated Lieutenant Governor. As part of the Mid-Atlantic Region of Optimist International, we are connected to a worldwide network of volunteers who believe in the promise and potential of every child.

Optimists bring hope, encouragement, and a positive vision for the future through meaningful service and a commitment to our youth. From supporting local programs and community projects to providing opportunities that inspire young people to grow and succeed, our clubs are making a difference every day. With an upbeat spirit and a helping hand, Optimist members empower young people to become the best they can be. Together, Optimists around the world conduct approximately 65,000 service projects each year, reaching more than six million young people — and the North Carolina West District is proud to be part of that ongoing mission of optimism and service.

  • Why Become an Optimist?

As Members of Optimist Clubs, individuals have the opportunity to "Bring Out the Best in Kids" along with other like-minded citizens. Through an Optimist Club, volunteers can answer the needs of local youth by organizing meaningful service projects.

The Optimist Creed

Promise Yourself

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
